Sonia Alvarez, LPC, is the Director of Behavioral Health at
Maverick County Hospital District. A native of Eagle Pass, she
earned her Master of Education in Counseling and Bachelor
of Arts in Psychology from Sul Ross State University–Rio
Grande College. Sonia is licensed by the Texas State Board of
Examiners of Professional Counselors and holds certifications
in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma-Informed Care.
She has extensive experience serving individuals living with
HIV, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and Hispanic and
Indigenous American populations. Dedicated to supporting
both children and adults, Sonia addresses a wide range of
mental health needs, from anxiety and depression to trauma
recovery and identity development. She is also active in
community education, school-based prevention programs,
and advocacy initiatives that promote mental and emotional
well-being across Southwest Texas.
