Free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women in Eagle Pass and surrounding counties

About the Program

The Breast & Cervical Cancer Services (BCCS) Program’s goal is to help women receive quality and accessible breast and cervical cancer screening services at no cost to them. Each women receives services tailored to her needs to help reduce barriers to cancer screening, diagnosis and follow-up care through the Maverick County Hospital District BCCS program.

Why Screening Matters

Regular breast and cervical cancer screenings help detect cancer in its earliest stages, when treatment is most effective. Many women may not experience symptoms in the early stages of cancer, which is why routine screenings are so important.

Early detection saves lives, and the BCCS program helps ensure women in our community have access to these life-saving screenings at no cost.

How to Apply

Women may qualify for BCCS services if they:

  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Live in Texas
  • Are uninsured or underinsured
  • Have a household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level

Counties Served

The Maverick County Hospital District’s BCCS program serves women living in the following counties:

  • Maverick
  • Val Verde
  • Dimmit
  • Uvalde
  • Zavala
  • Kinney
  • Real
  • Medina
  • Frio
  • Edwards

Free Screening Services

Eligible patients may receive the following services at no cost:

  • Clinical breast exam
  • Screening mammogram
  • Pelvic exam and Pap test (Pap smear)
  • Follow-up appointments

Free Diagnostic Services

If additional testing is needed, the BCCS program may also provide:

  • Diagnostic mammogram
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Breast biopsy
  • Colposcopy
  • Cervical Biopsies (LEEP)

What Happens After Your Screening

After your screening, your healthcare provider will review your results and determine if any additional testing is needed. If follow-up services are required, the BCCS program staff help coordinate diagnostic testing and ensure patients receive appropriate care.

Case Management & Education

The program also offers support services to help guide patients through diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.

Medicaid for Breast and Cervical Cancer (MBCC)

If you have been diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer and do not have healthv insurance to pay for your treatment, you may apply to receive Medicaid for Breast and Cervical Cancer (MBCC).
